Farinacci"],"format":["ASCII","HTML"],"page_count":"13","pub_status":"EXPERIMENTAL","status":"EXPERIMENTAL","source":"Locator\/ID Separation Protocol INT","abstract":"This document describes the Mapping Service for the Locator\/ID\r\nSeparation Protocol (LISP), implemented by two new types of LISP-\r\nspeaking devices -- the LISP Map-Resolver and LISP Map-Server -- that\r\nprovides a simplified \"front end\" for one or more Endpoint ID to\r\nRouting Locator mapping databases.\r\n\r\nBy using this service interface and communicating with Map-Resolvers\r\nand Map-Servers, LISP Ingress Tunnel Routers and Egress Tunnel\r\nRouters are not dependent on the details of mapping database systems,\r\nwhich facilitates experimentation with different database designs.\r\nSince these devices implement the \"edge\" of the LISP infrastructure,\r\nconnect directly to LISP-capable Internet end sites, and comprise the\r\nbulk of LISP-speaking devices, reducing their implementation and\r\noperational complexity should also reduce the overall cost and effort\r\nof deploying LISP.
